Heavy Horses this holiday season
Fingle Woods is heaving with heavy horses this festive season. Beano and William from Dartmoor Horse Loggers are back with their new friend Polly (and handlers Will and Alex). Before Christmas they will also be joined by Kate Mobbs-Morgan from Rowan Working Horses and her horses Kipp and Sol. Together they are busy clearing conifer from an old ‘dray route’ which links a number of charcoal hearths together.
The horses will be in Fingle on the following days over the festive period:Monday 18th – Friday 22nd December;Wednesday 27th - Thursday 28th December;Tuesday 2nd – Friday 5th January. To see them at work and find out more follow the short circular walk highlighted in purple on the map below:
From Fingle Bridge walk east along the riverside path towards Clifford Bridge. Turn right up the first path signposted 'Wooston Hillfort' and follow the white waymarkers until you see a sign saying 'Holiday Horse Logging walk'. Turn left down the hill and follow the temporary signs down the old dray route until you find the horse working.Warning – the path is uneven and muddy in places, walking boots or wellies are advised.
