Fingle Lectures: April and May
The first two lectures of the year have seen record attendance and our next two talks look set to be just as popular:
Wildlife CCTV
Thursday 4th April, Fingle Bridge Inn, 7pm
Whilst CCTV for security purposes has been around for a long time, its use for wildlife surveying is very innovative. A team of volunteers and ecologists have combined their expertise to create mobile CCTV kits for surveying wildlife such as bats and fish. Recently, we've been using them to study dormice at Fingle, which has provided amazing insight into behaviours not seen before. This talk will explain how these ‘plug and play’ wildlife CCTV kits work, show some of the amazing footage captured and discuss potential future applications.
The Lost Words
Thursday 9th May, Fingle Bridge Inn, 7pm
Volunteer organiser for ‘The Lost Words in Devon’, Hayden Gabriel will shine a light on the Crowdfunder campaign that sought to place a copy of Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris’ nature-focused ‘spell-book’ in every primary school in Devon - https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/-the-lost-words-in-devon.
