Taking a While to Sink In

February 2020 was a wet month … really wet! The Met Office described it as the wettest February ever recorded and, for most of the month, flooding was in the news almost daily. Howling wind and lashing rain from storms Ciara, Dennis and Jorge sent us torrents of fast flowing water, running off the land, funnelling into the rivers and inundating flood plains across the country. Built up areas or compacted soil made the matter many times worse as surface water can’t penetrate the ground, so finds its way rapidly downhill.
