Fingle Finale
Fingle Finale – a programme of events in Fingle Woods this summer As you all know, for the last six years, the National Trust and Woodland Trust have been working together to ‘Bring Fingle Woods Back to Life’, restoring the ancient woodland and returning the woods to their former glory. Join us this summer to celebrate the end of the National Lottery Heritage Funded project with a number of free events and an on-site exhibition.
Fingle Forest Festival - Saturday 24th JulyTravel back in time through Fingle’s fascinating history on an interactive guided walk. Activities and demonstrations along the route such as heavy horses, green woodworking, tractor tours and historical re-enactments will bring the lives of the people who have lived and worked in the woods back to life.Charcoal Festival – Saturday 31st July Celebrate the importance of charcoal at four themed workshops: learn how make charcoal; have a go at green woodworking; get creative with charcoal art; or discover how charcoal production has shaped the woods for nearly 1000 years on a guided walk.
Iron Age Experience Day – Saturday 14th AugustExperience life in the Iron Age at this family fun event. Visit Wooston Castle, an Iron Age Hillfort, for warrior training, javelin throwing, fire lighting, wooden sword making and more.Fingle Exhibition Finally, if you are walking in the woods this summer look out for our exhibition. Between the Monday 26th July and Sunday 22nd August a series of photographic installations, historical reconstructions and before and after pictures will be installed in the woods to celebrate Fingle’s amazing heritage and wildlife. The display boards, objects and photographs will be put up temporarily to share some of the information we have discovered during the National Lottery Heritage Funded project. Finds uncovered during the archaeological excavations will be on display; before and after pictures will capture some of the change that has occurred in the last 6 years; replica objects will bring the history of the woods to life; and some of our favourite photos taken in the woods will be on display. These installations will be located along the main riverside track (the blue Riverside Ramble) and the circular route to Wooston Castle (the orange Hillfort Hike), so make sure you look out for them (or pick-up an exhibition map) if you are visiting between the 26/7 and 22/8.
